In 1845 Henry David Thoreau packed a bag and spent two years and two months in a self-built cabin in the forest surrounding Walden pond. At the time he was considered a crank: irresponsible and immature to boot, with Robert Louis Stevenson describing his lifestyle "dastardly" and "womanish". It took almost a century for people to warm to the idea, and today, in the context of sustainability, self-sufficiency and anti-capitialist protest, Thoreau has attained the status of "hermit-Saint" (John Updike).

In Thoreau’s words: "Most of the luxuries, and many of the so-called comforts of life, are not only not indispensable, but positive hindrances to the elevation of mankind." In this spirit, we would be reluctant to call our Walden poster a luxury. Perhaps it’s the first must-have for your log cabin in the woods.
